Before your kids get to middle school, have fun having conversations about their dreams. Why? Talking to kids about their dreams can lead to so many conversations about their ideas. When you start having conversations about dreams and ideas about the future before your child reaches middle school, you will have a better sense of their personality, the hobbies and activities that motivate them and overall what excites them.
Our Los Tweens & Teens team received a copy of the just released Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition on Blu-ray and Digital HD this October. The updated release also is available on the new Disney Movies Anywhere platform. We loved that our team ‘mascot’ – Katherine’s youngest daughter Rosy immediate fell in love with the movie as she watched it for the first time! She insisted on being in our photos for the post, which is unusual as she usually shies away.
So we started asking our kiddos what are their dreams since in the movie Aurora sings about her dreams via the classic theme song ‘Once Upon a Dream.’ Warning: You may keep signing the song for at least another week since it sticks in your mind!! It also is a fun exercise to ask your kids’ friends about their dreams during playdates or when you’re together. It really is a fun conversation! We heard all sorts of fun ideas. So far we have:
- Paleontologist (Johnathan is our ‘Dinosaur Dude’)
- A pediatrician or sports doctor or maybe a vet!
- An olympic swimmer
- A volleyball superstar
- A movie director or producer or both!
And the list goes on and on. So we let the kids tell you in their own words. The chat about dreams should be fun and lighthearted at first. Then you can start on ‘vision boards’ and creating goals to achieving those dreams.

As a mother of twin tweens in 2011 and an active Girl Scout Troop leader, Cristy realized there was a need to develop bilingual digital content and foster a community facing the challenges of raising kids after first grade. That year she founded and remains co-Publisher of Los Tweens & Teens, to support multicultural parents and mentors with content related to raising Gen Z- tweens & teens ages 7-18. Through the Los Tweens & Teens LIVE events such as Teens & Me – the growing team aims to provide our community with essential resources from chats with therapists to battle anxiety and bullying, to understanding social media and technology.
