The Los Tweens & Teens team was invited to enjoy Amaluna in Miami. As always our opinions are our own.

We first experienced the magic of Cirque du Soleil in 1998 during a visit to Disney World in Orlando. The show was La Nouba and its artistry captivated the audience like no other I had ever witnessed. AmaLuna continues what is now a tradition of quality entertainment that pushes the borders of creativity to new frontiers. AmaLuna’s artists are athletes with a special gift –grace under pressure. They radiate excitement and true enjoyment of their craft.
The story is described as… AmaLuna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Their queen, Prospera, directs her daughter’s coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honours femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next.
In the wake of a storm caused by Prospera, a group of young men lands on the island, triggering an epic, emotional story of love between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. But theirs is a love that will be put to the test. The couple must face numerous demanding trials and overcome daunting setbacks before they can achieve mutual trust, faith and harmony.
Abuela and I recently attended a Sunday evening show in Miami and found myself trying to determine which act I liked best. It is an impossible task. I ended up with personal favorites –Cerceau and the Waterbowl, Teeterboard and Chinese Pole, but could not bring myself to judge one as better than the other. I actually developed a relationship with the artists and appreciated each performer for his or her desire to make me happy. I think this is the difference and the value of participating in a Cirque du Soleil performance. You leave feeling good about yourself and those around you. Your mind expands after watching people at work doing amazing things and you feel more capable of doing bigger and better things yourself. The show truly immerses the audience in an environment where the impossible becomes reachable. To quote a familiar phrase: That is priceless!
The live music, costumes and set design enhance the story and bring in the audience for a complete total sensory experience.
In a meeting with a Cirque du Soleil representative after the show I found out that Cirque du Soleil employees and artists represent more than 50 nationalities and speak 25 different languages. Since 1984 close to 150 million spectators have seen the show. Today, the business has 4,000 employees worlwide, including more than 1,300 artists. As shows travel to various cities, company representatives provide complimentary performance tickets to disadvantaged youth and other deserving groups and provide tours of show facilities. This engagement with the community promotes good will and creates avenues of opportunity for local artists and others.
As a grandfather I’m motivated to enjoy future shows with my family and grandchildren. I feel Cirque du Soleil and AmaLuna are truly a modern role model for what multicultural quality entertainment for families is all about. And we’re excited to share the Amaluna experience with our Los Tweens & Teens community! Be sure and register below for a chance to win our Family Four-pack of tickets to a Miami show!

As a mother of twin tweens in 2011 and an active Girl Scout Troop leader, Cristy realized there was a need to develop bilingual digital content and foster a community facing the challenges of raising kids after first grade. That year she founded and remains co-Publisher of Los Tweens & Teens, to support multicultural parents and mentors with content related to raising Gen Z- tweens & teens ages 7-18. Through the Los Tweens & Teens LIVE events such as Teens & Me – the growing team aims to provide our community with essential resources from chats with therapists to battle anxiety and bullying, to understanding social media and technology.
