American Cancer Society Needs Our Help!

3:04 pm by Cristy Clavijo-Kish

Amigas.. The American Cancer Society needs our ayuda! My familia has been touched entirely too much by cancer and I want to help others in any way PREVENT this horrible disease in its many forms. We CAN make a difference to reduce cancer for our childrens’ generations. The ACS is recruiting participants for Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3), a long-term study that seeks to better understand the factors (lifestyle, environmental, genetic) that cause or prevent cancer. Past long-term ACS studies have played a major role in cancer prevention and have demonstrated the: 1) link between smoking and lung cancer; 2) significant impact of being overweight or obese on cancer risk; 3) impact of hormones, physical activity, diet on cancer risk; and 4) link between aspirin use and reduced risk of colon cancer.

Enrollment is happening NOW through the fall. Participants must be between 30-65 years old + no personal history of cancer. Involvement includes going to a recruitment site, reading and signing a consent form, completing a survey, providing some physical measurements, giving a small blood sample, and responding to follow up questionnaires by mail every 2 years following (for at least 20 years). The 20 years may sound daunting, but ultimately, the time commitment for the follow up surveys is very small…usually between 15-45 minutes.
This is a once in a generation opportunity to help change the course of cancer, and doesn’t involve donation!  Here is more information regarding the STUDY
and where to sign up by state. Check out a video that explains the study and your involvement further.
Juntas podemos!  Together we can make a difference in the lives of our youth.

As a mother of twin tweens in 2011 and an active Girl Scout Troop leader, Cristy realized there was a need to develop bilingual digital content and foster a community facing the challenges of raising kids after first grade. That year she founded and remains co-Publisher of Los Tweens & Teens, to support multicultural parents and mentors with content related to raising Gen Z- tweens & teens ages 7-18. Through the Los Tweens & Teens LIVE events such as Teens & Me – the growing team aims to provide our community with essential resources from chats with therapists to battle anxiety and bullying, to understanding social media and technology.

Los tweens & teens

I conceived the idea for Los Tweens and Teens in the midst of raising identical twin daughters as they reached first grade. My familia always is at the center of my life.
