This is part of a sponsored campaign with Latina Mom Bloggers and Transitions Optical. I was provided with a complimentary eye exam and pair of eyeglasses to test for the purpose of this campaign. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
Amigos- do you know that November is Diabetes Awareness Month? I’m all too familiar with Diabetes due to the disease running very strongly in my mother’s family. My ‘mami’ is a Type II Diabetic and when her uncle died he already was blind and a double amputee due to the effects of Diabetes. For my own part I had Gestational Diabetes during my pregnancy which means I have to carefully watch my weight and any warning signs since I’m a candidate for Type II. I appreciate the active conversation that Transitions Optical promotes among Latinos and multicultural audiences in particular since Diabetes is a silent enemy and over 90 percent of severe vision loss and blindness are caused by a serious vision condition called diabetic retinopathy. This can be identified and addressed early on based on the changes that occur in the eye that are visible during a comprehensive eye exam from an eye doctor.
Transitions® lenses – the #1 recommended adaptive lenses worldwide – are the ideal everyday choice for healthy sight. They are clear indoors and at night, and outdoors, continuously adapt with every variation of light so you can consistently see your best.
Through its various web platforms and programs, Transitions Optical is helping to educate and motivate consumers nationwide, particularly ethnic groups including as Hispanics and African Americans, who have higher rates of Diabetes across the communities. They are more likely to develop eye- and overall-health issues that can take a serious toll on their vision and quality of life.
Earlier this year I shared how our family made a commitment before the school year started for everyone- including Daddy- to have our eyes checked.
Here’s our Los Tweens & Teens Vision Testing Experience
Unfortunately all of us had an increase in our vision prescription, but fortunately we were able to find out that no other issues are visible. Have you checked your medical benefits? Could they include vision coverage that you may not be aware of? Be sure and check into this. Even without a vision plan, many retailers now offer affordable vision testing and prescription lenses. Check it out before the year ends!
And consider Transitions Lenses for your next prescription. I have grown to love my new lenses. Although I don’t need to wear them constantly, my Transitions Lenses enhance my vision by providing more clarity and better contrast, and reducing glare, eye fatigue and strain. I have felt my eyes are less tired at the end of the day.
You can order your own TRIAL pair of Transitions Lenses to test before you purchase: http://transitionstrial.com/
And be sure that children have their vision tested annually. Lack of good vision can cause them to have learning and health issues. My girls were getting headaches due to their undiagnosed vision change.
Saludos-
As a mother of twin tweens in 2011 and an active Girl Scout Troop leader, Cristy realized there was a need to develop bilingual digital content and foster a community facing the challenges of raising kids after first grade. That year she founded and remains co-Publisher of Los Tweens & Teens, to support multicultural parents and mentors with content related to raising Gen Z- tweens & teens ages 7-18. Through the Los Tweens & Teens LIVE events such as Teens & Me – the growing team aims to provide our community with essential resources from chats with therapists to battle anxiety and bullying, to understanding social media and technology.
