Dora LIVE Action Film Entertains the Whole Familia

The character beloved by Gen Z – Tweens & Teens goes from animated explorer to high school student

Holaaa – somos your Los Tweens & Teens team! We hosted our first movie screening party in Miami with our amigos at Paramount Pictures and a group who won our movie ticket giveaway to enjoy the new Dora and the Lost City of Gold film. Our team was pleasantly surprised with the first full length, live action feature film for the lovable ‘Dora the Explorer’ character and her famous friends and familia including ‘Boots’ the monkey, her cousin Diego and even her nemesis Swiper the fox.  Considering that this generation has grown up with Dora since she was launched by Nickelodeon in 2000 – it was a special treat to see her grown up as many of her original fans are now in high school as well. 

The audience laughed throughout the story line and was engaged. Who was in the Miami screening audience? More diversity than expected. A combination of girls, boys, moms, dads, abuelas, abuelos and even teens (!!) enjoyed the film. The cast was composed primarily of Latinos and featured Eugenio Derbez, who played the mysterious tour guide Alejandro, and Isabela Moner, who played Dora. We also loved seeing familiar faces like Eva Longoria and Michael Peña depicting Dora’s parents (who turn out to be explorers themselves).

However, Jeff Wahlberg as Dora’s fun-loving kid cousin Diego turned average teenage boy worried about fitting in at high school stole the scenes many times and was one of our favorites (many of our girls thought he was quite the cutie Lol!).

The movie is certainly entertaining and creative. Adapting an animated character and having her grow up to face a high school scenario really is creative. The theme  that resonated with so many in the audience that we spoke with is that of accepting who you are and not allowing your environment to change you. The film features moments that had a High School Musical feel to them while a little bit of animation. Released on August 19th– we highly recommend you check it out in theaters with the whole familia. Vamonos!
