Teens Test out the new Ford ‘Drunk Suit’ to learn valuable lessons.
Car accidents are the leading cause of death among teens in the U.S. Add alcohol and the statistics become even more alarming. That’s why it’s imperative that we talk to teens about drunk driving.
We’ve been talking a lot recently about teaching safe driving early because we know that safe habits start earlier than the teen years. These are life-saving learnings that can take many years of discussion to build the foundations of a safe driver. If you already have a teen, be sure to have the conversation now.

We joined Ford to help spread the word about the new Ford Driving Skills for Life- (DSFL) program that was unveiled in Miami recently. For the first time, Ford is sharing a new piece of wearable technology: the Ford “drunk suit” which aims to prevent teen drunk driving accidents. The suit features goggles to impair vision and cause disorientation, weights to impair reflexes and reaction time, and headphones to impair hearing. To get a sense of what the drunk suit looks and feels like, Los Tweens & Teens invited a set of teens-as well as a Dad who is actually a police officer- for the experience. We wanted them to share their reactions and why this program is so important.

It was interesting to watch Alvaro Cabal of Ford ‘suit up’ our participants with the drunk suit components and then ask them questions which included:
- Are you on the red line?
- How are you feeling?
- Can you hear clearly?
- Can you catch the ball?
The ‘drunk suit’ helps communicate in a very easy way that there is a clear correlation between alcohol and impaired driving. It makes teens truly understand this can save their lives and the lives of others they could harm. The infographics below further detail the initiative goals.
