Tweens & Hotels- what do they like? Los Tweens Reviews Homewood Suites by Hilton
Traveling with tweens is quite fun, but planning is the key to success. We started exposing our girls to new places when they were very young- driving to parks, traveling within our city and state, etc. As part of the Los Tweens’ route for the American Latino Heritage Road Trip we discovered the area of Hagerstown Maryland. After connecting with the wonderful staff of their Convention & Visitors Bureau – we drove to the lovely Hagerstown area. The Visitors Bureau team suggested we stay at their local Homewood Suites by Hilton based on our family size and trip itinerary.
In all of my business and leisure travel I had never stayed with this hotel brand and was interested to research their offerings. I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Since the hotel layout is an all-suite hotels – it really was worth the trial. If your familia can afford the mid-level rates– it is worth it as prices include breakfast AND dinner from Monday-Thursdays. If you consider the price of an average breakfast for four (ranges between $15-40) and a mid-priced dinner will cost anywhere from $25++) then the nightly, weekly rate really isn’t so high. The accommodations were excellent. All rooms have either one or two bedrooms, one or two bathrooms and a kitchenette with small living room/office area. It is very comfortable for families. Los Tweens tell us their feedback in this video. Funny enough- their favorite aspect: their own room! Turns out not having to room with us was their favorite part- too funny!

I must say that my only disappointment was that there was no recycling offered at the hotel. This is an issue for our family as we collect all plastic bottles, bags, cardboard, etc. for recycling while on the road and have taught the kids to seek out recycle bins or locations.
All in all Hagerstown is very pleasant for families. And so many of the area historians, park staff and tourism officials were familiar with Latino contributions to the Civil War, had bilingual information and again, were accommodating. It really is too bad that we didn’t’ have more time to enjoy and get to know the area more fully. Good rationale to plan another visit soon!

As a mother of twin tweens in 2011 and an active Girl Scout Troop leader, Cristy realized there was a need to develop bilingual digital content and foster a community facing the challenges of raising kids after first grade. That year she founded and remains co-Publisher of Los Tweens & Teens, to support multicultural parents and mentors with content related to raising Gen Z- tweens & teens ages 7-18. Through the Los Tweens & Teens LIVE events such as Teens & Me – the growing team aims to provide our community with essential resources from chats with therapists to battle anxiety and bullying, to understanding social media and technology.
