This is part of a sponsored collaboration with Latina Mom Bloggers and State Farm. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
When I was a young tween- about 9 years old, my father was a regional safety director for a large telecommunications company and used to have with him entirely too many driving safety videos. Whenever my friends would come over, who all were around the same age, he always found it to be a ‘great time’ to learn about safe driving tips! We all would look at each other wondering why WE needed to know about ‘time and space’ between you and the car ahead of you. To this day, when I get together with old friends, all with tweens and teens themselves, they say- remember ‘time and space?’ While it was annoying then- it was so important. As a parent I totally understand now my dad’s mission back then to teach us early about driver safety. As a teen driver I was fairly cautious, only getting a ticket once and I remember my dad being very upset!
I was so interested in supporting State Farm’s Celebrate My Drive campaign because it aims to do this very same thing- teach tweens and teens from a young age to focus on their driving skills by taking a pledge to think 2N2™ – keep 2 eyes on the road and 2 hands on the wheel. Did you know that auto crashes are the number one cause of death among teens in North America? This is so preventable. And here on the Los Tweens & Teens platform you know we’re all about fostering early learning and driving educational success. Safe driving should be part of the education you share with your growing child- it could literally save their life! Are you committed to staying fully focused while driving? What crucial lessons are you displaying while driving? Honestly look at your own behaviors. They’re watching us now!
I had no idea that you can verify if your local high school actually is registered for the Celebrate My Drive® campaign. I encourage you to visit the Celebrate My Drive website and check to see if your local high school is registered. If it is not registered, be sure to contact your school administrator (i.e. principal or counselor) to encourage them to register your school. THE DEADLINE IS COMING QUICK! There are thousands of dollars in grant money available but the school has to be registered by October 26th. There even is the opportunity for Kelly Clarkson to host a concert at your school so be sure to check it out!

As a mother of twin tweens in 2011 and an active Girl Scout Troop leader, Cristy realized there was a need to develop bilingual digital content and foster a community facing the challenges of raising kids after first grade. That year she founded and remains co-Publisher of Los Tweens & Teens, to support multicultural parents and mentors with content related to raising Gen Z- tweens & teens ages 7-18. Through the Los Tweens & Teens LIVE events such as Teens & Me – the growing team aims to provide our community with essential resources from chats with therapists to battle anxiety and bullying, to understanding social media and technology.
