Los Tweens & Teens is partnering with The National Pork Board on a compensated campaign. As always our opinions and views are our own.
We’re excited that our Los Tweens & Teens platform has been selected as a blog ambassador for The National Pork Board. There’s no time like when you’re enjoying food to connect with your cultural roots. As a Cuban kid growing up in New Jersey and Miami I assure you I’ve had my share of traditional pork recipes! Most Cuban holidays or family gatherings call for a roasted pork leg of some size to feed the extended familia. But I prefer pork recipes for my family that are updated and prepared with healthier ingredients, and I’m also a fan of cooking with the kids. So we’re excited to attend ‘Sabios del Sabor’ at Fun and Fit as a Family – the event within the South Beach Food & Wine Festival that is all about kids and having fun with food.
On Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Jungle Island in Miami from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Celebrity Chef Doreen Colondres will host a fun-filled, LIVE demonstration in the Whole Foods Market Food Lab where kids will prepare two pork-inspired recipes with her. We completely support getting kids into the kitchen at a young age so they understand food preparation and the origins of food. The kids participating at the event will be transformed into “Little Pork Gurus” (or “Pequeños Sabios del Sabor” in Spanish), an extension of the National Pork Board’s Sabios del Sabor ongoing Hispanic community campaign. The program promotes the versatility and nutritional benefits of pork, as well as inspirational and delicious recipe options.
I can’t wait to join in the fun with our newly announced Los Tweens & Teens Food Editor, GianCarlo Tapanes- a 19-year old college student with a love of cooking and cusine from a young age.
Be sure and check out the featured recipes the kids and our team will prepare alongside Chef Doreen Colondres: Pork Pita Pizza and Orange Honey Pork Meatballs PorkTeInspira.com/recetas.
Chef Doreen Colondres will also address healthy eating and cooking tips for both kids and parents and highlight simple, quick and easy recipes that can be recreated with the family at home.

As a mother of twin tweens in 2011 and an active Girl Scout Troop leader, Cristy realized there was a need to develop bilingual digital content and foster a community facing the challenges of raising kids after first grade. That year she founded and remains co-Publisher of Los Tweens & Teens, to support multicultural parents and mentors with content related to raising Gen Z- tweens & teens ages 7-18. Through the Los Tweens & Teens LIVE events such as Teens & Me – the growing team aims to provide our community with essential resources from chats with therapists to battle anxiety and bullying, to understanding social media and technology.
