Preserving the Internet for our Tweens

1:20 pm by Katherine Doble

By Katherine Doble-Cannata

Our tweens don’t know what it is like to be in a world without the internet.  “I’ll google it,” is a phrase my tween will often say when she asks a question and isn’t satisfied with the answer or wants to learn more.
The access to vast amounts of information is an invaluable asset to our children.  Any law that would allow for censorship or limiting of free speech through internet channels should be carefully considered for their affects on future generations.  While Los Tweens supports government oversight of children web sites, we question the need for laws that will alter the internet for our children.
Let’s start a tweenversation.  What are your thoughts?  Do you feel that SOPA/PIPA are forms of internet censorship or necessary to protect copyright laws?  Do you think the internet should remain free of regulation with the exception of children’s site?  Hablamos!

Los tweens & teens

I conceived the idea for Los Tweens and Teens in the midst of raising identical twin daughters as they reached first grade. My familia always is at the center of my life.
