Every conversation with another mom recently has started with, “What are you doing with the kids this summer?” While everyone is scrambling to find summer camps and fill their tween’s days with activities, I’m making my own schedule. A “Mami & Tween” schedule.
Last year due to a tight budget and a lack of planning on my part, I invented the idea of “Mami & Tween” activities. I took off work early on Fridays and spent time with the kids. We visited the local pool, museum, took a trip to the movies and just hung out around the house. It was awesome.
Our children are growing faster so fast and we talk a lot about seizing the moment but are we actually doing it? With no school and work schedules usually lightening because of vacations, summer is the perfect time to cash in on this. I also found that summer “Mami & Tween” time provided teachable moments. Time that I could influence my children decisions and have meaningful discussions. One area that I am always focusing on is food choice. Its very important for me to teach my tweens that the foods they pick have a lasting affect on their bodies. Which is why I am excited to be introducing my tweens to DOLE Fruit Squish’ems during our “Mami & Tween” time this summer.
New DOLE Fruit Squish’ems come in an easy-to-use pouch and are an an easy, great-tasting, convenient snack that kids and moms will love. I really enjoy the fact that they are BPA, GMO (not made with genetically modified or engineered ingredients and Gluten free. Each pouch contains a full serving of all-natural fruit and is only 60 calories . And, DOLE Fruit Squish’ems are made from fresh apples from the USA.

A few tips on creating quality “Mami and Tween” time this summer:
– Plan a special “Mami & Tween” time. Take off work early a few afternoons, go in to work a little later or even spend quality time in the evenings. Your tweens will look forward to spending this special time with you.
– Discuss with your tween what he or she would like to do. They are old enough to let you know what interests them so let them dictate just a little bit. And, go along with the flow. Video games don’t interest me but playing them with my son for a few minutes goes a long way!
– Research local tween appropriate outings. During the summer, events are plentiful and there are plenty of discounts to be had. Do some online research or plan your own. Go on a “Mami & Tween” bike ride, trip to the local pool or just walk around the neighborhood.
– Stock the refrigerator with nutritious snacks. This summer, I’ll be replacing the popsicles and ice cream with frozen packets of DOLE Fruit Squish’ems! So even when I am not around, the tweens can reach in and gran something healthy.
This summer, plan a few “Mami & Tween” moments and see what happens!
