Spring Fashion: Why Peplum is Perfect for Moms

What do Katherine the Duchess of Cambridge, Jennifer Aniston, Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, and Jennifer Hudson have in common?  They are all fans of peplum.  Peplum, the Greek word for tunic, is a short skirt attached at the waist to a fitted dress, top or skirt.  It was hugely popular last year and a quick scan of the Spring 2013 runway collections will tell you its making a return this spring.  I’m excited!

I love peplum because it hides what I affectionately call “the pooch”.  Moms, you all know what I’m talking about.  It’s that extra area of skin and fat right under the belly button that appears just after giving birth.  No matter how many crunches or sit-ups you do, it just won’t go away.  Peplum does an amazing thing to the pooch – it hides it by drawing the eyes straight to the hips.  No need for expensive procedures or crazy diets.
 
 
 
 

The look can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Peplum dresses and tops matched with pencil skirts are perfect for the office.  Tops can also be matched with jeans and shorts to provide a fun yet dressy casual look perfect for attending birthday parties.
