Super Bowl parties are easy, right? All you need is a few snacks, a large TV and a big couch. Ahhh, clearly you don’t have children. Parents know that just when you’re settled down to watch the big game, the kids are going to come running over to complain that they’re bored, hungry or both! With just a little planning, you can plan a tween friendly Super Bowl party that you, your amigos and tweens can enjoy.
Dress up. Everyone loves to get into costume, especially tweens. Ask your Super Bowl party guests to come to wear the team their rooting for’s colors to the party. Make it even more entertaining by giving a prize for best costume.
Make tween friendly snacks. My kids prefer any food they can grab and go. But, finger foods can be notoriously unhealthy. By re-thinking some of the adult options you can easily create fun and healthy finger foods. Having a caprese salad? Place grape tomatoes and mozzarella balls on a skewer. How about shish kabobs? For some reason, skewers seems to make everything delicious.
Create a fun punch. The adults all have their refreshments…what about the kids? There are tons of great punch recipes available. Find your favorite and kick it up a notch by adding blueberries and lemon slices to create a Baltimore Ravens punch. Or if you’re rooting for the 49ers, reolace the blueberries with strawberries.
Plan activities. Set up a few games in an adjacent room to keep the kids away from the TV but busy enough that they aren’t complaining.
So if you’re rooting for the Baltimore Ravens, the San Francisco 49ers or just watching for the ads, be sure to plan ahead to keep your tweens happy so you never have to miss a minute.
