Disclaimer: Los Tweens was invited to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. We received complimentary park passes and attended events. All views are certainly our own as well as any recommendations are sincere.
As my kids get older I sadly think about the phases that have passed and the fact that they aren’t babies any more. But just getting near the highway exit for Disney Parks makes everyone as giddy as a preschooler! Indeed the experience is different as they now choose what rides and shows interest them, but it’s a wonderful purely family experience as well. When they choose their favorite rides, it’s like they’re four again with excitement! We enjoy shopping together for a fun item but most importantly, we just laugh together. Mainly they’re laughing at me because I finish the rides half dizzy now!
Los Tweens recently was invited to experience the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration this Mother’s Day at the Magic Kingdom and what an amazing family experience it was. During the day I had the opportunity to be surrounded by other ‘blogging mamas’ as well as terrific speakers, while at night we enjoyed great family outings. My favorite speaker hands down was Ashley Eckstein founder of Her Universe but a.k.a. my tween twins’ FAVORITE Star Wars The Clone Wars character- Ahsoka Tano! I absolutely love that she’s a Sci-Fi fanatic and was a ‘frustrated girl’ who couldn’t find fun themed t-shirts and clothing like the boys do. So she created her own fashion line! What an inspiration she is while being so friendly and welcoming. I’m her newest fan! Once my tween twins- mini sci-fi fans themselves- heard that “Osaka” of Star Wars the Clone Wars was in the audience- they had to sneak a photo! She was so accommodating. MOMS OF GIRLS WHO LOVE STAR WARS AND SCI FI- check out the website link above for super fun attire!
There are so many new things to see this summer at the parks. We had the pleasure of seeing the Coronation of “Merida” as the newest Disney princess. I feel that older girls can really identify with Merida for the values of courage, bravery and intelligence that she represents. And of course she has a feisty spirit that forces her mother to learn how to manage- I certainly understand this role clearly! The new Fantasyland is very cute and it features my favorite princess Belle – with her own castle, reading time and a fun replica of Gaston’s ‘hangout’ – it’s very cute.
Here are more fun scenes from our adventure:
I’m a bit surprised that EPCOT has become such a favorite among our family. I love that the girls actually plan on visiting the countries. They talk to all of the staff and learn something about the various cultures every time. At the Mexico pavilion they actually spoke Spanish with the staff- finally the “Espanol” effort is paying off! Some of our family’s favorite rides are there between Test Track and Soaring. The tweens designed their own car this time that was wayyyy cooler than Daddy’s so that was a unique competition!
Yes, the parks get full during the summer but be sure to check out all the new options. Take time at one of the pools or water parks for a break and head back to the park at night.
While I love taking tween-aged kids to natural locations and parks, the Disney parks represent just fun for the family. Again, lots of laughter this time and great photos- can’t wait to be back this fall.
Be sure to send us any video and photos from your family trip this summer- we would love to feature it on our Traveling Tweens section.
Saludos!
As a mother of twin tweens in 2011 and an active Girl Scout Troop leader, Cristy realized there was a need to develop bilingual digital content and foster a community facing the challenges of raising kids after first grade. That year she founded and remains co-Publisher of Los Tweens & Teens, to support multicultural parents and mentors with content related to raising Gen Z- tweens & teens ages 7-18. Through the Los Tweens & Teens LIVE events such as Teens & Me – the growing team aims to provide our community with essential resources from chats with therapists to battle anxiety and bullying, to understanding social media and technology.
