One of the most popular topics our Los Tweens & Teens team is asked about by parents is relating to helping their older kids manage acne breakouts. The back-to-school time brings with it peer pressure for our older kids and acne can really hurt a growing child’s self esteem. One easy way to help tweens and teens feel more confident as they get older is to help them gain control of their developing acne.
Dermatologists recommend that when children begin to enter adolescence around 9 years old they create a good cleansing regime early. This process not only helps boys and girls build early cleanliness habits but also aids in fighting off acne by removing the dirt and oil build up that can worsen it. When girls begin to experiment with make-up, the cleansing routine can really help them learn to remove it and allow their skin to breathe more easily.
Our amigos at Neutrogena have created a teen-inspired quiz that helps to determine the best cleaning and acne-reducing products based on skin type. In order to help your family choose a more customized acne-fighting regimen, we recommend starting with with ‘Lets Solve It’ online quiz by Neutrogena to figure out what products may be best for your teens’s particular acne issue and skin type.

When I helped my girls create their cleanliness routine routine early, they started understanding that taking care of their skin so it looks good and is protected starts with them. Because many acne-related skincare products can also cause dryness, the Neutrogena Grapefruit Acne line, which contains naturally derived grapefruit extract plus Vitamin C, also includes a moisturizer and cleansing wipes for a quick clean up.
As a mother of twin tweens in 2011 and an active Girl Scout Troop leader, Cristy realized there was a need to develop bilingual digital content and foster a community facing the challenges of raising kids after first grade. That year she founded and remains co-Publisher of Los Tweens & Teens, to support multicultural parents and mentors with content related to raising Gen Z- tweens & teens ages 7-18. Through the Los Tweens & Teens LIVE events such as Teens & Me – the growing team aims to provide our community with essential resources from chats with therapists to battle anxiety and bullying, to understanding social media and technology.
